Check out this story on CNN about my hero, Sandra Day O'Connor. It seems so sad to me - her husband, who has Alzheimer's has struck up a romance in the old folks home...and his super educated, super smart, super powerful, former Supreme Court Justice wife is not jealous and ok with it!
If I was ever in this situation I would be moving Matt out of that old folks house and leave him on the side of the road...ok, maybe I wouldnt do that - but I dont think I would be so cool about it.
The story states:
"The retired justice isn't jealous about his relationship with the woman...'Mom was thrilled that Dad was relaxed and happy and comfortable living here and wasn't complaining,' their son said.
It was different when he first came to the center recently, the son said: "He knew this was sort of the beginning of the end ... It was basically suicide talk."
John O'Connor was shifted to another cottage at the center, Scott O'Connor said, and "48 hours after moving into that new cottage he was a teenager in love. He was happy."

I'm sure she has already had to deal with the realization that he isn't the same person she married anymore. Even old people need friends. It's not exactly like he is setting up another family or anything. It's really a terrifying thought--physical ailments are much easier to deal with than mental/emotional changes in the person you thought you knew.
Wow. This gives me a lot to think about.
I hope they never put Clarence Thomas into a home!
P.S. I cried like a baby during "The Notebook"
